Abstract

International migration is one of the most important factors of population dynamics for several European countries. It is a complex, and continually changing process with different implications for various social areas and policies. Especially in recent years, it has been shown that it is a very sensitive and society-wide issue. Migration issues in Slovakia are given some attention from different points of view, but the analysis of the migrants themselves is rather rare. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is a detailed analysis of the structural characteristics of foreign migrants and their possible development over time. We focus on age, gender, marital status, and the highest level of education.
