Abstract

The historically forming model of early and almost universal entering into marriage in Slovakia in the early 1990s completely disintegrated in a very short period of time, and the strategies of postponing or completely refusing marriage began to come to the limelight. For their analysis in cross-sectional perspective, the most suitable tool is the use of single marriage tables. They belong to a wide family of life tables and try to model the transitions of people to their first marriage as closely as possible. The long time series of these models thus makes it possible to analyze the nuptiality changes of single persons in Slovakia in the last, almost three decades and to point out the main changes and development trends.
