Abstract

The postponement of motherhood is one of the main features of the transformation of reproductive behaviour in Slovakia in the last three decades. An important factor in this development is the extension of the study and the related changes in the educational structure. The main objective of this paper is to underline the development of the timing of maternity. We analyze not only the national but also the regional perspective in connection with the highest education level of women. We have therefore attempted to answer the question whether the postponement process across all educational groups can be identified. In addition, we attempt to find spatial differences in the process of postponement of maternity within individual educational groups and analyze their development over time.
