Abstract

Single-child mothers have been a marginal reproductive pattern in Slovakia over a long period. However, the transformation of reproductive behavior suggests that this model is becoming more and more important and will be of great importance for the future character of families and households. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the development of single-child mothers in Slovakia, to outline its possible development among the younger generations, to point to the position of Slovakia in the international comparison, and to identify groups of women becoming mothers of only one child more often.
