Abstract
A development of the population size and growth depends directly on the reproductive and migration behaviour of the population which is significantly
influenced by the social and economic situation. The population size and mainly its structure, in turn, affect the functioning of society. Therefore the population size and growth should be monitored and assessed in a long-term perspective and in wider context. The paper evaluates and compares the population size and growth in the Czech Republic and in the Slovak Republic in the last 100 years, as from the establishment of the 1st Czechoslovak Republic up to the present.
