Abstract
Early motherhood was a historically important characteristic feature of reproductive behavior in Slovakia. Since the early 1990s, we have witnessed, however, a significant and dynamic deviation from this model and conversely, we are experiencing a process of postponement of maternal starts and thus of the whole transition to motherhood and parenthood. The main aim of the paper is to analyze early and late maternity in Slovakia in the longer term, to point out the main changes and development trends and at the same time to identify the possible regional differences existing in the first half of the 1990s and in the recent period.
