Abstract

The 1940 Population Census belonged to the planned statistical actions. The Census was held on the territory of the Slovak Republic without the areas ceded to Hungary and the Third Reich after the Munich conference and the Vienna Arbitration. The aim of this paper is to bring some published results, which complement the picture of the character of population in Slovakia during the Second World War. We focused mainly on certain structural characteristics: age, gender, ethnicity, religion and class occupations. In addition, we were dealing with the population size and their change, population density, proportion of foreigners, absent persons, size of dwelling households, all at national and districts level.
