Abstract

The 2011 Population and Housing Census 2011 was carried out in the Slovak Republic on 21 May 2011. Results of the population and housing census update the picture of the society, its demographic, social, cultural, educational and economic level, the number and structures of houses and dwellings. The main objective of this paper is to briefly describe the entire course of this most important and the most extensive survey, from the census preparation (legislative, territorial, methodological), through the field data collection to the processing and the dissemination of census results. It also includes basic trends in the population, derived from obtained data.
